Navigating the Rough Like a Pro

Goal: To minimize the amount of grass between the club and the ball so as to successfully advance the ball back to the fairway and towards the hole

First, analyze your lie. Your lie in the rough dictates what club you will use. Then, based on your lie choose your club and make necessary adjustments to your stance.

  • "Teed Up" Perfect Lie
Club: Any club you want from any distance
Set up: No adjustment to set up or stance needed

  • Medium Lie
    Club: 6 Iron or shorter
Set up: Normal stance, move hands forward over left leg to create sharper back stroke and steeper decending stroke

  • Nasty, Buried Lie
    Club: Sand Wedge
Set up: Choke down, move the ball about an inch back in your stance, move hands forward over left leg to create sharper back stroke and steeper decending stroke to get below the golf ball.
