Coal Creek Completes Scheduled USGA Course Rerating

Updated course and slope ratings are now in place following the return to the course's original routing.

Golfers will notice a few changes the next time they tee it up at Coal Creek Golf Course.

The biggest change is the return to the course's original starting hole. The round once again begins on the par 4 located directly outside the clubhouse. The former Hole 10 now serves as Hole 1, restoring the course's original design.

The return to the original routing also provided the perfect opportunity for Coal Creek to complete its scheduled USGA course rerating, a process that takes place every eight years.

A course rating measures the playing difficulty of a golf course for a scratch golfer, while the slope rating measures how much more difficult the course plays for a bogey golfer. These ratings are used to calculate handicaps and help ensure fair competition among golfers of different skill levels.

During the rerating process, a team of trained USGA raters evaluates each hole, considering factors such as length, elevation changes, hazards, fairway width, green size, and other features that affect scoring.

While most of Coal Creek's course and slope ratings changed only slightly, the updated ratings are now reflected on the new scorecards, helping ensure handicap calculations remain accurate and up to date.
