Get a Grip

“I have never seen a bad golfer with a good grip.”  Ben Hogan

Previously I offered a simple winter tip on how to improve “your” unique grip to achieve maximum club head speed (which I am sure you have all been regularly practicing this winter). Watch now >

Today we are going to expand the concept of improving your grip to include the role of the grips on your golf clubs and your golf gloveBoth of these items can greatly increase your golf shot consistency and club head speed.

Your only attachment to the golf club is with your hands. So much of a golf swing is outside your conscious control.  If you feel the club is slipping in your hand you will automatically, without thinking, grip tighter. A tighter grips reduces club head speed and creates shots that travel to the right.

Grips: The importance of the proper feel when gripping the club cannot be overstated, nor can the importance of the role of the grip. Grips wear out over time and become slick from the sweat, dirt and the oils from your hands reducing the control you have of the club. A golf grip should be changed at least every year (if you clean your grips regularly you may be able to get 2 years). Working with a your golf professional at Coal Creek you can get fit for the proper grips which the most cost-effective approach a golfer can take for improving their equipment and their game. Getting the grip sized to your hands is just as important as getting your feet sized to a shoe. New grips make any set of golf clubs feel like a brand new set, at a fraction of the cost.  Here at Coal Creek we have 18 different grips in stock and more than 54 available special order and can have your regripped clubs ready for you in as little as 48 hours. Choose from 10 grip sizes and unlimited colors.

Golf Glove: A golf glove will provide a more secure grip on the club. Golf gloves help the golfer keep a good grip on the golf club without having to squeeze it too tightly. Make sure your golf glove is well-made and fits properly. We are offering 3 types of golf gloves this year.
FJ 66146E 01 FootJoy WeatherSoft This glove has been our staple. It is inexpensive and very durable. It is also thicker than some players like.
FJ 68748E 01 FootJoy Contour FLX glove.  It is a mid-priced grip with a treated thinner leather for more feel.

Whatever glove you use the enhanced gripping capability will allow you to swing freely without worry of inclination of the club slipping out of your control.

Take some time this spring to make sure your grip is setting you up for success on the golf course this season. See you on the fairways.
