New Restaurant Opening in February

Introducing The Grill at Coal Creek

Coal Creek Golf Course is excited to announce the opening of a new restaurant, The Grill at Coal Creek. The Grill at Coal Creek is a casual dining spot that offers tasty, traditional American fare with spectacular views. Whether you are looking to have brunch with your family or grab a bite after your round, The Grill at Coal Creek is where you can relax and enjoy a meal with family and friends. The restaurant opened on February 22, 2021.

Let's take a peek behind the kitchen doors and find out more about this new restaurant, its owners, and what to expect.

Hi Kevin. Welcome aboard! Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your business?
My name is Kevin Caldwell, and I am a Principal at Western Golf Hospitality (WGH). WGH is a Denver-based food and beverage business that provides food and beverage services exclusively at Colorado municipal golf courses. We currently manage the food and beverage concessions for the City of Englewood (Broken Tee Golf Course) and the City of Westminster (Legacy Ridge and Walnut Creek).

What is your background?
I grew up in Denver and attended CU (Go Buffs!). I am currently married to my wife Ann, also raised in Denver, and have three adult children, one of whom graduated from the CU Leeds School of Business.

I owned and operated several restaurants/bars out of college, including Brooklyn's and Thirsty's. I then left the restaurant business for a 20-year career in IT services working with many clients in the Louisville/Broomfield area. Upon retiring from IT, I returned to the restaurant business and opened a sports bar and restaurant near Denver University called Crimson and Gold Tavern in 2010 (now under new ownership).

What was your inspiration to get into the golf food and beverage industry?
In 2013, we were presented with the opportunity to open a restaurant at Broken Tee Golf Course in Englewood. As a golfer, I was excited to combine my love for the game with my restaurant experience. During this process, we had a realization that golf course concessions require special management skills and knowledge, unlike stand-alone restaurants. We founded Western Golf Hospitality to fulfill this niche and specialize in providing a high-quality product while serving the needs of both golfing and non-golfing patrons from the local community and fostering excellent working relationships with the onsite-golf staff and City representatives. In 2016 we expanded our operations and took over the food and beverage for Legacy Ridge and Walnut Creek. And now we are excited to be at Coal Creek!

We have to ask. We know you know food, but do you know golf?
I love the game of golf! I have played for years and am a former Meridian Golf Club and Castle Pines Country Club member. I am pretty proud of my shooting a 76 as my career-low, although that was a long time ago (laughs). I still try and get out to play as much as I can and have a current index of 14.2. Even though I may not be on the course as much as I used to, I like the idea of being associated with the game in a way that can help make it more enjoyable for people to play and play more often. I am also very supportive of junior golf, and WGH provides support to the AJGA for their annual tournament at Walnut Creek.

What can we expect at Coal Creek Golf Course?
WGH prides itself on excellent products and services to not only our golfers but the local community. We want to let the community know that everyone is welcome here. Come in for a drink or lunch and enjoy the views! We will be doing some minor renovations over the coming months, so pardon our dust as we spruce the place up a bit. We look forward to meeting everyone and being part of the Coal Creek family.
